First 'Alien: Covenant' Image Teases Biblical Spoilers
Following the appearance of Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) in 2012's Prometheus, the first image released for Ridley Scott's follow-up, Alien: Covenant features a logo from a project of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation.
The image, released on Facebook Wednesday, features the mission patch of the Covenant, the titular ship at the center of the sequel to Prometheus, with the slogan "Building Better Worlds" and iconography referencing the Ark of the Covenant — a sure sign that everything will work out just fine in the movie.
The Weyland-Yutani name originated in Scott's original 1979 Alien as "Weylan-Yutani," visible in background props, before adding the extra "d" and becoming part of the core franchise mythology in James Cameron's Aliens. "The Company," as it was nicknamed, would go on to play a part in Alien 3, as well as non-franchise works including Joss Whedon's Angel and Firefly.
According to the plot synopsis of the film, the story finds the colony ship Covenant headed for a remote planet, a place that the crew initially thinks is an uncharted paradise but turns out to be dark and full of terrors. And the only inhabitant is synthetic life form David (Michael Fassbender), who claims to be the lone survivor of the Prometheus mission.
Scott, working this time from a script by Michael Green and Jack Paglen, has Katherine Waterston, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smolett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride and Noomi Rapace aboard this one. With the cameras already rolling, Alien: Covenant will land here on August 4 next year.
