Here's the thing, I am not even using tinder anymore, but I am going back to my homecountry/hometown and I was thinking it'd be nice to see if there are any gay guys and so on.

I live in the Netherlands since 3 years, but I am from Bulgaria and in my hometown I didn't know of any gay guy (in general like at ALL) when I was growing up (I left at the age of 19).

Anyway I just remembered why I stopped using Tinder.

Do you guys know that if you are a male, looking for a female, when you swap, swap, swap females every once in a while you get a male right ? (the same happens if u look for males and every once in a while u get a female).

I used to think it's a simple bug, until I realized it only shows you GAY guys. Literally me being EXPOSED to all straight guys in my area, even tho I have chosen (Male looking for a Male).

I tried it as an experiment and when I was going through the women, once in a while I used to get a gay guy right there (cuz I recognized them, since I used to look for males obvi)

I even think some of my friends saw me on tinder (even tho they are straight looking for a female) which is really ****ed up, no ?

Isn;t this like a MAJOR Tinder FAIL or something ? Did u guys know about this + what do you think ?

I am in the closet (still) like some friends and family knows about me, but that's not the point. Now I am kind of scared to use tinder in my hometown (cuz yeah Bulgaria is obviously not as friendly for gays as Netherlands)... and I just decided to make this thread here to see what y'all think ,or if you knew about this.

Why would a male who seeks for a male, pops up to a male who seeks for a female ? How is that related ? What the heck...

Just say that someone uses your pictures when you get confronted about it & don't link your IG.

well yeah but you have to have a FB to make a tinder acc. And even if I say this, they can see that there is no other FB account with my pics.

But that's not the point, I just think this is really unsafe in a way i don't know, it's pretty messed up.

What I swore they only connect you with other guys that are also looking for men.

The women you see (if you're men 4 men) have their profile set up so that they are "men" on the app.

that's actually scary, you should stop using it if it potentially has the power to put you in danger with the homophobes in your country. But if you really need it that badly just email tinder and ask them what is going on and why it's happening

I doubt you have much to worry about though hopefully people have more important things to do than create witch hunts for horny gays

It's better to make a seperate FB without any friends to link your Tinder with. You can also upload pictures from your photo gallery (since recently?? idk). You're safe

but that means he probably chose "Looking for males" too right ? And thought he was safe by typing "looking for a female"

It's happening because people have their profiles set up as men (who are women) and also there's the option to get both men and women in your deck, so that may also be happening where the guy is outwardly straight, but has his profile set up so he's discoverable to gays like you

Like I thought it's so messed up, that my brain literally erased it and I just now remembered why I stopped using it

And yeah I know about grindr, but it's so vulgar ( I use it don't get me wrong), but yeah In a more homophobic world (even tho Bulgaria is not that bad) i'd think that some guys would find tinder safer (without knowing about this). Also I expect to see younger people using tinder and older people using grindr, hence why I'd rather try tinder.

Anyway I'm glad that some of you didn't know that so now you know it, but is it possible that it's a problem only on Android or maybe only on older versions of Tinder and so on ... ? Cuz my Phone is pretty old + android from like 2013, but those guys that I see when I am looking for females... I doubt all of their phones are android
