I have never seen this stuff outside of Atrl/real life and I'm curious to see if any of y'all identify themselves with these in real life? How do people react to you when you tell them this? I honestly would be like what? because I have never seen anyone say this before I started seeing it here/tumblr. Have you faced any weird reactions from people? parents? friends?

i have a friend irl who asks people to refer to them as 'they/them' and no one's had any weird reactions to it, why would they? it's just a pronoun. people are just like "okay i will" and that's that

i've heard of it but have yet to come across anyone who has asked me. i have friends who are gay, lesbian, and bisexual. NONE have ever asked me to use other pronouns other than he/him for the guys and she/her for the girls. the hair salon i go to has trans women working there, i refer them as she/her. i'll kindly refer to anyone however they ask, just as long as they extend the same courtesy to me .

the only pronouns i think are valid are he, she, and they. i don't necessarily think gender identities outside of girls and boys don't exist at all, but i have no idea why people think they need a super special pronoun for their identity in particular. that's really not how language works at all.

then again i haven't really done much research on gender so i guess i shouldn't make too many sure decisions, but just based on linguistics it makes no sense, and i think the more out there pronouns are just used by people that think they're more interesting than they actually are

that said, the people who want you to call them "it" or whatever are just being dumb. i sure as hell am not going to do that. but i wouldn't really have any reason to talk to someone that annoying anyway. lol

If that makes me close-minded, then so be it. And not really because believe or not, this "non-binary" sort of identification is mostly only a thing in the western world.

I mean it's not like it would bother me, people can do wtf they want but I just can't really fathom all of this so I would most likely pay no mind to it.

this actually isn't true. there are quite a few non-western non-binary identities, like hijra or two-spirit. then again, i don't think those can really be accurately associated with western ones, because the cultures are so much different (and westerners shouldn't identify as them for that reason; not because of appropriation or whatever, but because if you haven't been raised in that culture then you really haven't experienced the gender norms)
