They're an attraction. People go to spectate them, and watch them. They bring in tourism.

The monarch is the head of state in constitutional monarchies. If the monarchy is abolished you'll have to elect a ceremonial president to serve as head of state. Monarchs are cheaper and actually make money for a country.
