There's basically an extreme culture of homosexual repression there, to the point where men are allowed to act effeminate and "touchy" with one another and it's considered humorous rather than "gay" because there's such a DEEP denial of gayness being a thing. It's essentially like "yes, guys can act gay it's just for fun no one's actually gay that's not a thing". And lesbianism is like...not even a concept.
Literally there is ONE openly gay celebrity in Korea. One. And coming out basically ruined his career, so. Do with that what you will.
EDIT: of course this is like in the main-stream broadcast older-generation-controlled part of the culture. The younger generation is much more accepting which is why it's rapidly becoming less of a big deal. There's a queer subculture there like anywhere else which does extend to media (music, movies, etc.) but it's not super common. Though there has been a meteoric rise in the amount of gay characters on broadcast dramas, though the portrayal isn't...the best.
