I always see people making jokes about "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?" I always found it a clever and understandable analogy. I mean, sometimes life makes you feel like you're being tossed around helplessly with no direction... like a plastic bag. I never saw people laughing at it until I entered the stan world.
I can understand why it gets made fun of. Like no one has sat there and thought "Man I feel like a plastic bag today" but at the same time I've never heard anyone make fun of that line. It's mostly a stan world joke
I completely agree with you, but the words "plastic bag" just sound kind of abrasive, especially at the beginning of a song. A great metaphor that was perhaps worded and placed wrong

our Feminism prof showed us the mv in class (to randomly diss how fireworks are coming out of her breasts when they are meant to be coming out of her heart duh) and the minute the opening line started everyone laughed. I think it has to do with the fact that that line would of been better suited on the second verse or something. But to start your song with such an odd and yet strong question throws ppl off course and makes them laugh/chuckle etc...

i've heard people make fun of that line, and they don't even care about pop culture.
Because who the **** has ever felt like a plastic bag? We will never see anyone again for the history of humanity use this metaphor again, it is Katy's mark on pop culture -- she was the first and she will be the last
"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind wanting to start again?"
That **** makes no sense.

It makes perfect sense for those who have felt worthless.
