Because everyone here hates when an unknown act comes out of nowhere, usually with a debut hit that goes #1, when they would ideally prefer a main pop girl slaying the charts. That's pretty much the stupid mentality here.
Idk. I feel the same way to him that I do to Megan Trainor. They are both halfway decent but it is frustrating to see mediocrity rise so quickly to the charts when there are so many better soulful and bluesy singers out there. I love the type of music he makes, but it is annoying when a really basic watered down version of a great genre is the only thing that is getting any attention.

I don't really find him (them?) offensively bad in the way a lot of people seem to. The music isn't anything special and I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it but it's not exactly insufferable in the way other hits this year have been, or in the way a lot of people are making out.
