So most of you probably aren't tech savvy, but maybe some of you know about mobile plans.

I bought an iPhone 5C off of Amazon that was unlocked (no carrier specific). My sister says she now pays insurance on it (T-Mobile insurance) and recently my phone has been coming up with no caller ID available (no matter what I do) and GPRS has come on (making it slower than honey flowing from a jar) after 2-3 calls. I don't know what to do and there is no absolutely NO way I can afford a new iPhone. My sister says they'll give me a refurbished one (even though they stopped selling 5Cs now), and I'm ready to cry. I love my iPhone and I wanna keep it. I can't afford any new phone at all, and I've seen these posts come up on the apple discussion where it said it happened to him with 3 phones before he switched to an Android. That's not an option.


All I'm asking is can someone tell me with a T-Mobile plan if this is possible to get a refurbished one from them. I don't mind if they have to ship it, I just need one that'll work because my dad's so paranoid he doesn't answer my calls - no matter what I tell him

Do you have an Apple store nearby? Book in a Genius appointment and have them assess it

I have an Apple Store nearby in downtown place near me but my sister refuses to drive up just for an iPhone because it's not her problem and I'm spoiled for having this.

Caller ID, is that none on your end or orher's end when you call them? Call them and they should fix it easily. It could be turned off.

Have you tried making sure all phone systems are up to date? Go to settings>general>about to have the phone look for the newest settings from the carrier. Then go to system update and check that. GPRS is a data standard older than Edge. It's like 2.5G or something. Maybe even 2G.

I'm not too familiar with T-Mobile but I think that they're a GSM carrier like AT&T. Which means data shouldn't go out with a phone call especially after 3 of them.

I would take it to either or both an Apple Store and a t mobile store after calling customer service.

It comes up as no caller ID on their end. I actually traded with my friend today and when she called me from her SIM, came up as no caller ID.

I updated my iOS recently and my carrier settings. Yeah I read it's older than Edge

Yeah, they are. I had restarted my phone after it went in GPRS. It switched back to LTE, I called once and It went down to 4G. Called my friend (who's also on T-Mobile), then called my dad (who didn't answer) and about 10 minutes after, it changed to GPRS which makes all calls fail. It used to change every 2 days.

I'll be going tomorrow and hoping for the best.

I mean I worked at T-Mobile and as far as I know you can't have an insurance policy on a phone that you didn't buy from T-Mobile. And an insurance exchange would be $150. Though I guess it'd be a warranty exchange. But same deal. Also they'd hassle you on a warranty thing. The warranty lasts one year past the date the phone was purchased.... from T-Mobile.

Yeah that's what I thought.

Apparently my friend fixed the caller ID problem. I don't know how.
