I think it depends on how they promote her. If they mention on the show that she is the biggest pop star in the UK, and if they are certain to feed the media comments about her musical success, then I think she possibly has a shot at starting a successful US career and balancing that with her judging duties. The key is to promote the he'll out of the fact that she is a pop star first and foremost.
I think we're all thinking about how Paula has attempted musical comebacks since she's been in Idol but none of them really panned out. In think the key difference in this situation is that Paula had a reputation of being washed up, and she was quite a bit older than Cheryl is. Being a new face in the US and being youthful, I feel like people in the US may not be as skeptical of Cheryl because they do not have these preconceived notions of who she is or what state her career is in.
