Three first-graders have been suspended from their school in Alaska after plotting to poison and kill a classmate, officials say.
The three girls, who go to Winterberry Charter School in Anchorage, planned to use silica gel packets, KTUU reported.
The gel, typically used to retain moisture in everyday products such as prepackaged food or shoes, wouldn't have had the intended effect but the girls thought it was harmful, according to the network.
Another student found out about the plan and alerted school administrators before the girls could put it to execution.

Silica gel is generally considered non-toxic and is made out of the same mineral as sand or quartz, Slate wrote in 2011. The Kitchnn even suggested reusing the packets to preserve ingredients such as herbs and dried fruit or to store cooking tools.

The packets, however, can be dangerous if swallowed because children can choke on them. Some varieties of silica gel also have coating that is considered toxic.
The girls have been suspended for several days and will return to Winterberry Charter School after their punishment.
No charges will be filed after a police officer investigated the case.
