Revealed in a filing today, the FBI has successfully unlocked the iPhone 5c used by one of the San Bernardino gunmen. Apple, which has refused to comply with the FBI’s request, was set to face off with the government last Tuesday. The FBI, however, requested a delay for the hearing stating that it had found an outside method that could potentially unlock the device in question without Apple’s help. Now, the FBI has announced that it has been successful in unlocking the device
The FBI needed outside help. And it's an iPhone 5c. It doesn't have the security measures that the 6 line has.
Apple couldn't have accessed it anyway. They would have had to rewrite iOS to have a back-door weakness and give the key to that door to the government. And other governments. Then it would get stolen or sold and it would be on the black market. And people who've never killed people would be at risk.
Weak encryption and back doors are not the answer. That puts everybody at risk. We're an inch away from a totalitarian government. They're supposed to answer to is not the other way around
So its official the fbi can hack into your iphone, think twice about what you say and do
im quite sure one of my old schoolmates on facebook can hack iphones too. it doesn't seem too hard when you are a tech-whiz. tbh the FBI could have done this weeks ago, i think they were just asking Apple to be considerate of their product. lots of people out there could have done it for them.
The main thing to remember is this is an iPhone 5c. A 2012 model phone (lbr)
Starting in 2014, with the iPhone 6 line, they included what's called the "secure enclave". The device's passcode thing is stored in that and after so many incorrect attempts, only allows one input per hour until the correct code is used. That's if data deletion isn't enabled. That makes brute force entry a near impossibility.
This situation will arise again when they need to get into a newer model phone.
