She debuted on the music scene upon the release of
All About That Bass in June 2014. It's music video became a viral phenomenon and later on went to become the first debut music video to reach a billion views in Youtube and the song went on to become worldwide hit as it also
topped the Billboard Hot 100 from September to November that certain year. In Early September, she released a 4-track EP named Title which
peaked at #15 in the Billboard 200
She released her 2nd single,
Lips Are Movin, a last minute addition to her album in late October 2014 which references her previous #1 hit in the lyrics, and went on to become another
Top 5 hit for her in the US and the UK.
In January 2015, she released her debut album titled as
"Title". It exceeded initial expectations,
debuting at 196,000 pure sales and 240,000 SPS units, which is unusual for this certain month
Her 3rd single,
Dear Future Husband, released on March 2015. features the same doo-wop elements of her previous singles f
ared moderately compared to its predecessors peaking at #14 on the Hot 100. It also stalled in Pop Radio compared to her other two singles
Her 4th single, a ballad collaboration with Grammy winner, John Legend,
"Like Im Gonna Lose You" was released June of 2015, went to become Meghan's first true sleeper hit. It peaked at #8 on the Hot 100, and became a double #1 in Australia and New Zealand It reached its peak during the winter of 2015 and up to now, it is still charting inside the iTunes Top 100 chart and in AC chart in radio.
Simultaneously,
Meghan was featured in Charlie Puth's single, "Marvin Gaye", which was also a European hit
, topping the UK Charts at #1, and as well as NZ, and Australian Charts.
While in the midst of touring, Meghan also started making her follow-up album to title. The tour was later on cancelled due to her vocal hemorrhage and she underwent surgery. By the end of 2015,
she already completed her 2nd album, titled Thank You, which is due on release for this May 13th 2016, a little more than a year gap between her first album.
Last February 2016, she went on to
win the Best New Artist title in the Grammy Awards. Within a month after the ceremony, she released her lead single from the follow up album,
NO, which borrows elements of early 2000s music that features a change of direction and image from her previous doo-wop influenced album .
It is currently #6 Hot 100 chart and is likely to break into the Top 5 next week.
Meghan was thoroughly promoted with morning TV shows (Today Show Concert Series, GMA) and night shows such as (Dancing with the Stars, Kimmel & Fallon, The Voice, etc). She performed and attended major award shows she was nominated. Aside from that, also with various commercials unto her music, brands such as HP and Skechers and
she also wrote album tracks for Jason Derulo, Rascal Flatts, Fifth Harmony, and Sabrina Carpenter. She was also featured in the Peanuts Move and its official soundtrack
She was basically in the music scene and in the media from middle of 2014 up unto the present time. But how come after a year and a half of exposure and ascent to stardom, her music is still receptive to the General Public. How is that so?
