I noticed recently on ATRL that there seem to be members who post pictures of random Asian people in base/celebs.

It seems weird to me because I can't seem to understand why the Asian people's pictures are there. Perhaps they are there to compliment a statement they made?

As a Californian, I'm not exposed much to Asian people/music.

Am I out of the loop? Is being Asian cool now? Or is it just people still trying hard to making Asian people a thing?

Since I don't know many Asian people....I have no idea what the lady is expressing with her face.

I can honestly say I have never witnessed this phenomenon but maybe they're just using GIFs they think are funny/shady, and the people in them just happen to be Asian...?

I live in a secluded beach town where it's mostly whites and latinos.

But Asian music/celebrities aren't popular or understood here so to me the gifs/pictures seem out of place. I assume most members will be like "what are these Asian people-gifs/pics doing in the discussion thread?...they have nothing to do with the topic?" It just looks and feels weird. Perhaps I'm missing the facts. In 2016 is it true that most of Americans on ATRL don't find the Asian gifs/pics weird?

But don't you think that it's weird to say that the reason you're not surrounded with Asians much is because you're Californian? I mean, California is the state with the highest population of US Asians so yeah. Also, that's a really interesting demographic makeup since in California it's usually whites and Asians that live with each other in one area, while Latinos and blacks live with each other.

The truth is they can post whatever they want and you shouldn't be bothered by it.

California is also one of the largest states so people are spread out. Asians I assume usually tend to live in urban areas/cities. I live in a vacation town along the coast....secluded from any big cities or urban areas.

I understand why people can think my questions or statements are racist. I'm not saying they aren't racist, I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who feels like the presence of Asian gifs/pics is weird? Because to my knowledge there have not been many Asian pop stars/celebrities in America. So I assume others (like me) don't understand the body language of foreigners in gifs. It's like, why post a gif that no one will understand but you? Aren't gifs supposed to make people laugh or help prove a point?
