Unless you already have some kind of disease it can't do more harm than 'eating in moderation' and fasting has some potentital benefits, there is research made on this.
I can't really do the '5x1' type of IF but sometimes i try to go for more than 15 hours without eating, limiting my meals into a 6 or 8 hour period. It's easier to eat less to me like that, if i try the 'eat little portions each 3 hours' approach i tend to not be so disciplined, i will be more hungry the more often i eat.
