I wanted to know your opinions about long distance relationships.

do they work when two people are so in love?

is it a waste of time?

I don't like them. I'd only consider it if the relationship was really strong for years prior.

Hi. My opinion on this subject is split into 50/50 :

If the two people who are actually in love and have boundless feelings and respect for each other, they would great put effort into working things and eventually seeing other and being together, but if you have doubts within a certain party or betrayal or both or immature assholes, it won't work.

Though the distance at times might create a better and greater longing for your bf/gf, it might also create tension and air of awkwardness too.

In my case, it was me who was trying so hard and the other part that was interested in the initial would back down on me later leaving me disappointed and upset after being together a for while.

Objectively, it depends on your partner.

From my experience of being in one I would never recommend for anybody else to put themselves in that position. For me, it was really difficult and draining to maintain a long distance relationship - probably because of the fact that he made me put in most of the work. It also doesn't help that my boyfriend in that relationship had cheated on me and his excuse was that he needed somebody "tangible".

You just need someone who is as driven, committed, and as in love as you are to keep the relationship going.

I usually avoid them completely. I need someone I can spend quality time with in person, and someone to give me the attention that I want when I crave it.

When in a long distance relationship many things can get mistranslated and there's too much opportunity for cheating, that i'd rather not put myself in that situation.

Hard to say. It could work for some people, but it won't for others.
Personally I'm against it. I'd never get myself in one no matter what.

My ex BF and I started "normal" relationship where we'd see each other like once or twice a week... Then he told me he was going back to college in Virginia so we decided we'd make it work

I told him that I didn't want to do it if he didn't think he could handle it, but he assured me he could so I said ok.

The first month was really hard, but last month I finally got to go down and visit him. When I got home after the trip I thought everything was ok and I was really happy. After that I saw him posting pics with this guy (who was good looking), but I didn't worry too much.

He barely texted me and I started getting upset because he had time to post on snapchat and facebook/insta but I tried to let it go. I finally tried to tell him about it but he just pushed me away. Finally I just told him he needed to tell me what was going on--and he said he couldn't handle a relationship anymore (due to school and his fraternity).
I said ok.

He comes home for spring break and I'm scrolling through tinder and I find this b**** on there. I was so angry.... "I'm too busy for a relationship" my a**. Anyway, I need a lot of physical contact and it's hard to get that in LD relationships. I would suggest avoiding them (unless you know they can work).

you have to be really in love though, i never once felt like i "was putting hard work in" because we loved texting and facetiming all day every day

I was in a long distance relationship for about 2 years. It was really bad at times, but it also had really great times. I can still say that I love him and I was in love with him when we were dating, but it's honestly very hard to date someone long distance because you never really know what they could be up to. It'll drive you crazy.

Luckily my ex didn't live so far and saw me pretty regularly. But that didn't really help in the trust department. Eventually I did find things out and we ended our relationship.

Well out of my three major relationships my long distance one was the best, the one where I was the most in love, and the only one where we're still friends. It was hard at times just wanting to be with him and touch him so bad (he lived in a different continent so seeing him wasn't easy) but it just made the good times so much more exciting. I don't know if I'd do it again but I don't regret any of it

i think it can work in /very/ rare cases

but i ended up getting burned by 2 different long distance relationships so i don't think i'm going to try that again. (except my non long distance relationship is the one that ended by far the worst, so maybe i'm just bad at this...)
