Whoopi Goldberg. Charlie Sheen. A stuck elevator. In the World Trade Center. On 9/11.
This is not a joke.
Now filming in California, the new independent film “Nine Eleven” centers on five people trapped together during the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.
Sheen and Goldberg both play characters in the desperate situation, with Goldberg as an elevator supervisor, executive producer Mark Burg told the Daily News.
“It’s a beautiful story of faith, hope and survival,” Burg said Monday. “Hopefully people will look at this as an homage to the brave firefighters and rescue workers who gave up their lives so that other people could escape.”
At least one victim’s relative was skeptical Monday, saying she had “no interest” in the new flick.
“The only (9/11) movie I’ve ever wanted to see was ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ because it shows the (death) of Osama Bin Laden,” Sally Regenhard, who lost her firefighter son Christian, said.
Burg said writers Martin Guigui and Steven Golebiowski worked with survivors, firefighters and victims’ relatives as they loosely adapted an Off-Broadway play.
“Whoopi has an amazing role. I am happy to see Whoopi off the couch, not behind a desk or in a square, but doing what she’s brilliant at, which is acting,” Burg said Monday.
