Michael Jackson continues to set records even after his death. According to new records, the King of Pop is the most downloaded artist of all time.
Musicologist Geoff Roberts from Nokia's Ovi Music Store that conducted the search says, "Michael Jackson has always been a pop music legend. But the anniversary of his death and upcoming birthday celebrations seem to have revived Jackson fever as fans rediscover his songs - making him the most popular solo artist of all time."
He beats out Lady Gaga, Elvis, the Black Eyed Peas and Rihanna for the most downloads. But the U.S. still isn’t where he’s the most popular—it’s India!
There, Michael accounts for 26 per cent of the country's entire Ovi downloads, followed by the UK, Germany, Netherlands and Finland.
They don’t call him the King of Pop for nothing! Other artists may be at the top of the charts right now, but it takes a superstar to stay there even after death.

Michael Jackson, Gaga, Britney, Elvis: Most Downloaded Artist
Lady Gaga may be the current sensation but she is no match for the King of Pop; her eccentricity is nothing compared to those hypnotic moonwalks and her music is way below the level of MJ’s magic.
As per the download records of Nokia’s Ovi Music Store, Michael Jackson is the most downloaded artist of all time elbowing past the likes of Elvis Presley, Britney Spears or Madonna or Gaga.
The most popular tracks of Jackson are:
1. Beat It
2. Billie Jean
3. Thriller
In recent times, India is the one grooving to Michael’s tracks with 26% of country’s download being accorded to the Pop king. In fact, the top 5 nations are:
1. India
2. United Kingdom
3. Germany
4. Netherlands
5. Finland
In recent days, there has been an upsurge in his downloads perhaps owing to the proximity of his 52nd birth anniversary which falls on 29th August. Musicologist Geoff Roberts feels, “Michael Jackson has always been a pop music legend. But the anniversary of his death and upcoming birthday celebrations seem to have revived Jackson fever as fans rediscover his songs – making him the most popular solo artist of all time.”
Michael may have left the mundane world but his music stays forever…..and through them, Michael lives forever……. (ENSNN)

Michael Jackson has become the most downloaded artist of all time.
The 'Thriller' singer-who died of acute Propofol intoxication aged 50 last June -is the world's most popular solo star, ahead of Lady Gaga, Elvis, the Black Eyed Peas and Rihanna according to download records from Nokia's Ovi Music Store.
Musicologist Geoff Roberts believes the singer's upcoming birthdate on Sunday (29.08.10) could be responsible for an increase in his popularity
He said: "Michael Jackson has always been a pop music legend. But the anniversary of his death and upcoming birthday celebrations seem to have revived Jackson fever as fans rediscover his songs - making him the most popular solo artist of all time."
The 'King of Pop' - who would have turned 52 this weekend - is most popular in India where he accounts for 26 per cent of the country's entire Ovi downloads, followed by the UK, Germany, Netherlands and Finland.
Singer's 1982 single 'Beat It' is the most popular track at the Ovi store, with 'Billie Jean' and 'Thriller' close behind.
Meanwhile Michael's hometown of Gary, Indiana, will mark his birthday with a party outside his childhood home tomorrow (28.08.10).
The party will take place alongside a separate four-day 'MJFanvention' which began in the town yesterday (26.08.10).
The main attraction at the fan event will be a special tribute concert on Saturday, featuring Tony Award-winner Melba Moore and the late singer's former tour guitarist Jennifer Batten, as well as impersonator Edward Moss and a choir of Indiana residents.

Michael Jackson: All-Time Most Downloaded Artist
By Resa Xu
Michael Jackson, even after he passed away, is setting new records. He is now the most downloaded artist of all time, according to Nokia’s Ovi Music Store.
The “King of Pop” has surpassed Lady Gaga, Elvis, the Black Eyed Peas, and Rihanna in downloads. His popularity increase may be due to the emerging of his birthday on Sunday, Aug. 29.
Among all the countries, he is most popular in India, where 26 percent of the total downloads come from.
His hometown, Gary, Ind., will host a party to celebrate his birthday on Saturday. It will take place at the same time as the MJ Fanvention, a celebration that runs from Thursday to Sunday.

MJ’s more popular than living artistes!
ERAM AGHA, TNN, Aug 29, 2010, 12.00am IST
Beat me, hate me, you can never break me. Will me, thrill me, you can never kill me..." Maybe there's more to these lines from the song "They Don't Really Care About Us" than their anti-discrimination stance. They're quite literally true for the late Michael Jackson, who remains a moneyspinner in death as in life - and more popular than many of the hot, young artistes alive! He haunts the charts, tops lists and is still singing.
The stats say it all, not just in the western world, but also at home - MJ accounts for the highest number of downloads in India. In the US, MJ's ringtone sales came to $1.5 million, and the bulk of them came after his death. Since his demise, he's sold approximately 9 million albums in the US alone. "Beat it" is the most downloaded song. He tops the charts and surpasses other solo stars like Lady Gaga, Elvis Presley, Jay Chou, The Black Eyed Peas and Rihanna. The King of Pop's estate agreed to a $250 million, 10-album deal with Sony Music Entertainment for previously unreleased music.
Since his death, Sony Music has sold 28 million MJ albums, including 5 million copies of the soundtrack from " This Is It," a documentary on the spate of shows he was planning for his comeback concert. According to some websites, the dead man is the next big thing in the industry! His future projects may also include a video game, a DVD compilation of his videos, and a re-release of " Off The Wall," MJ's fifth studio album which first came out in 1979, along with some unreleased material. So now we know when Jacko sang "You Can Never Kill Me", he meant it!
"Jackson is the epitome of life, and even in the remote and rural villages of India, people know that there was a Michael Jackson. So many times, small town people comment, 'Arre yeh toh Michael ban gaya!' This says a lot about his ability to cut across cultures and social strata; he was a phenomenon," says Abhishek Mathur from the band Advaita.
Chayan Adhikari, the lead vocalist of the same band, believes that the social messages in his songs make him a legend who'll live on. "Jacko's number "Man In The Mirror" says change can be brought about by changing the man in the mirror. "Black or White" says that one's colour doesn't matter, " Earth Song" and "Heal The World" propagate peace, "They Don't Really Care About Us" was the voice of the deprived. His songs always had some message wrapped in them, and his performance was always complete, whether it was the background, or the dance, his appearance or anything else - he presented it very well." Akshay Raheja from the band Faridkot says, "He'll always be seen, and how! Someone will copy his curly hair, while someone will wear the kind of hat he wore. If not that, then his dance steps will always be an inspiration."
It's clear that while MJ's last few years were troubled, death's made him a bigger success than he's been in a long while!

It's that one song that totally sums him up, I can't listen to it without crying. It's depressing to know I will never get to see him live and we never got to see him prove everyone wrong with the This Is It shows
