Zoe is a great actress and a great person. She can do it swimmingly.

It's not really about her being a great actress. Its about Hollywood willingly choosing a person of a lighter complexion, playing a role of a woman who was very proud of her dark complexion during a time where dark skin was seen as ugly. While Zoe is a black Latina, someone who is of a darker complexion would've done better and bring a stronger meaning to the role. Such as Viola Davis.

Why choose a light skinned woman if you're Gonna darken her Skin anyway? Makes no sense.

This is really disrespectful in all ways. Simone's daughter isn't happy about this film and is hoping fans don't see it. Why not just hire a dark skinned woman? Viola Davis for instance.

Zoe is so dumb for taking this role, the backlash is so real they can't even plead ignorance here, nina's dark skin, jackson 5 nostrils and baby hair with afro was a huge part of her story, which is why they had to do all that to even kinda make Zoe look the part

This was a bad idea from the start. While Zoe Saldana is black (Afro-Latina) she just isn't black enough to play Nina. The same could be said if they booked Halle Berry or Nia Long for the role. The mere fact that they had to darken her skin and apply a prosthetic nose Like damn just hire an actress that looks the part!

Um? You could literally ask that question about any actor who has to alter their appearance for a movie? Why have actors lose or gain weight, bulk up, shave their heads or grow beards; when there's always someone else you could pick? But of course, since it's the shade of the skin color, it's a big deal. It's not like they picked some little cream white girl.
