Samsung is in talks to acquire the Tidal streaming music service, the New York Post reports.
The newspaper quotes “several” unnamed sources who claim Google and Spotify have also considered swooping for Tidal, which Jay Z acquired for $56 million through a purchase of Aspiro AB. Samsung, however, has reportedly positioned itself ahead of other potential suitors with plans for "something really big" in the pipeline.
"Samsung is re-engaging; they are working on something really big, and they’re keeping it very quiet in case it leaks,” reports the Post, quoting a source “close to talks.” An unofficial valuation of $100 million is mentioned in relation to Tidal.
nnnnnn purchased at $56 million; currently valued at nearly double that in under a year. And the arm chair CEOs on here stay trying to question Jay's business acumen from their mama's basements. Flip it and move on to the next thing; I see what the vision was, but the crabs in a barrel mentality in the media really tainted the launch, unfortunately.

I am pretty sure that buying exclusive contracts from so many A+ artists required more than 50 million..
If an artist like Kesha's contract is worth so much that she cant pay it off, its pretty obvious he bought those contracts for quite lot

I may be wrong but most of the A list artists that signed with tidal expected it to be a massive success and thought of it as a way to make more money from streaming, a lot of business start up with a promise to see profit after so many months. This was not the case with Tidal but you win some you lose some. Not to mention quite a few of them are friendly with Jay and Bey so its like doing a favor for a friend

Are you really comparing the value of a full recording contract with six albums left on its obligations to limited exclusive rights to certain artist content like behind the scenes videos (and most of the exclusives were from shareholding artists that were likely required to give exclusives as a part of their contracts when they bought in, anyhow)? Ohhhkay.
