After the controversy of Demi's online comments it made me question about political correctness and its worth in 2016. is being PC something that our society should continue encouraging or do you feel its about time we eliminate the censors and filters and say what we truly think?

You can't please everybody. Taylor Swift is living proof of this - dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.

People are expecting everyone to follow the status quo/trend of being an SJW, but, in my opinion, you should just be yourself but make sure you remember not to be rude and disrespectful towards others.

I wouldn't really call myself PC tbh.

If anything, I say that one shouldn't expect people to be perfect. There's some pretty messed up and ignorant opinions out there, sure but not everyone is/was raised in a diverse environment that promotes social acceptance, and people's views are going to reflect that.

Denouncing absolutely DEPLORABLE behavior (Like Fred Phelps and his ilk do constantly) is perfectly acceptable, but things like the Barbie debacle seem a bit 'extra' to me.

I think political correctness is good when it helps prevent discrimination against individual people (who could very well be opposite to the trends of whatever demographics they fit into for all you know), and when it helps to preventing bullying/abuse.

But when it leads to people denying science, it's bad in my opinion. Also, there's a difference between making a neutral observation about society and saying things that are intended to ignite hatred towards a certain group. The former is fine imo (but political correctness sometimes gets in the way of that), but the latter is bad imo and political correctness helps prevent that on TV, etc.

In my experience, the only people who complain about PC are people who want to be offensive just so they can look "edgy" and go against "tumblr culture" or some ****.

There are ways to have an opinion and STILL be respectful to a group of people. And that goes for both ends of the spectrum.

I understand your question, but you can't confuse respect with political correctness.

We all have the right to respect each other and agree to disagree. I don't think it would be a good thing to "eliminate all censors and filters", because words have power. Just try to be respectful, that's a good start.

I say this as a liberal gay black athiest. It has gone to far. They want too ban things I like even though they are begin. They want me to victimize myself when I don't want to be a victim and demonize me for not doing so. They have lynched moderate liberals. Painting us as "toxic"and "problematic" They left has gone so extreme they give me SS teas. Bernie Sanders projecting you can't be a Progressive and be a moderate. I feel as though the left have become a huge threat to American Liberty. The Cons have lost it too. Their is no more sane people left in America.

It's just dismissing the other side by making it seem crazy and delusional, when in fact you have no damn arguments to counter the "politically correct" side.


I mean, I get some people overreact when they see Caitlyn Jenner is accidentally being misgendered, but nobody is really censoring anybody. If you can say why the cisgender privileged guilt-ridden white queer feminist teen boy is approaching this with the wrong outlook then say so in a respectful manner.

People who cry foul about PC just want to say whatever they want without anybody every criticizing them and that's worse than any tumblr SJW out there.
