Mark was the one who came over to Rachel's apartment after she said she didn't want him to. What was she supposed to do, just push him out the door? They were friends. She probably shouldn't have lied to Ross at first on the phone, but what difference would it have made if she didn't? Ross was being a jealous freak at that point.
