Kanye West took a huge financial hit due to the disastrous roll out of his new album The Life of Pablo.

West's latest work has been pirated and downloaded so many times since its release that the rapper has lost $10million in sales.

This all comes at a time when West has claimed he is $53million in debt.

The New York Post reports that if the 500,000 people who illegally downloaded the album in its frist day had paid the $20 it cost to buy the album West would have personally made $10million.

This is extremely misleading. He didn't lose any notable amount of money.

Yeah, $10M worth of album sales could of been amassed, however artists only get 10-20% of revenue from albums usually.

On top of him already only getting 10-20%, nearly EVERY song is filled with many cowrites, producers, and sampling, like each song has 10+ people who are credited and also receive royalties essentially.

Once that $1-2M is split all those ways he essentially wouldn't have got much anyways, especially for an artist as big as him. He's not really losing anything by putting it on TIDAL instead of selling. And If anything he threw away money to give us a masterpiece; that makes him a charitable King who truly loves his fans.

That piece of information is actually correct. Kanye is charging $20 for purchase of the album on Tidal, the only place it is for sale. Where they go completely wrong is not assuming that 500,000 downloads would generate $10 million, but rather that the $10 million would all go to Kanye. Clearly, anyone with any knowledge of the music industry must understand that the artist doesn't get paid 100% of their album's revenue unless they write, produce, promote, and employ themselves.
