Melissa McCarthy has emerged as one of the most popular Saturday Night Live hosts in the past few years, earning Emmy nominations for all 3 of her previous stints on the show from 2011-2014. McCarthy’s previous SNL show, which she hosted in February 2014 (5.4 in overnight household rating) continues to be a high mark that even Donald Trump’s hosting gig could not match in the demo. So it is somewhat surprising that, with McCarthy as host and headline-making Kanye West — who has gotten involved in a slew of controversies over the past week — as musical guest, SNL last night drew a not-so-great 4.4. That was down from last week’s show which posted a 5.1, hosted by Larry David.
