Like it or not, quotes and words rule the world. I know some of you are not programmed to read and are used to everything being visually enhanced for your educational enrichment, but truth remains, language is fundamental. What are some of your favorite quotes that made you 'LOL' or that have inspired you to think more about yourself, or the way in which you see the world?
Several things to take into consideration:
- This isn't a gifs thread.
- These quotes can be from anything: movies, music, random friends (online?), philosophers, hobos, and everywhere.
- If you are posting various quotes please restrict yourself to one post, double posting is only allowed if you are coming back after a long period of time.
- Have fun and express yourself with words.
Quotes I've written:
"There should be a price for all the words that you said, maybe then you'd only say the things that you meant" - about someone who was playing with my emotions.
"It hurts, but I do this to myself. I'd rather replay us in my head, than move on to nothing" - same story, different point of view.
Beyonce got paid to say this:
"The great thing about McDonald's is that they have a lot of different things on the menu. I love their salads" -
“I get nervous when I don't get nervous. If I'm nervous I know I'm going to have a good show.” - Uh, well either way you're nervous?!

My current favourite:
"Better to write for yourself and have no public than to write for the public and have no self."
Cyril Connolly
Loads of people here should take inspiration from this one

"I tried being average, but it just wasn't for me" -
of course such an educational thread wouldn't be trending on ATRL. But the fights/drama would.

Directly from my FB profile
"El infierno debe ser un lugar donde te encierran con tus consecuencias y te obligan a lidiar con ellas" Laura Restrepo (Delirio)
Hell must be a place where they bury you with your consequences and make you deal with them
"Games that never amount to more than they're meant will play themselves out" Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova (Falling Slowly)
"To be honest, I have a never-ending personality crisis" Brandon Flowers
"That's when you know you've found somebody special. When you can just shut the **** up for a minute and comfortably enjoy the silence" Pulp Fiction
"No one forgets the truth. They just get better at lying" Revolutionary Road
"The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do" Jack Kerouac
"My greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live" Kanye West
“You reach a certain age and you come to the conclusion that greatness is not in you. You aspired to greatness when you were younger. but either through lack of industry or lack of discipline or simply lack of genius you didn’t achieve greatness. The years go by and you realise: ‘I’m this mid-level guy.’ I did the best I could". Woody Allen
"Trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it's broke, but you can still see the crack on that mother ****er's reflection" Lady GaGa & Beyoncé
"'Why do you waste my time?' is the answer to the question on your mind" Brandon Flowers (Sam's Town)
"Maybe that's all family really is. A group of people that miss the same imaginary place" Garden State
"Ask most people what they want out of life and the answer is simple. To be happy. Maybe it’s this expectation though, of wanting to be happy that just keeps us from ever getting there. Maybe the more we try to will ourselves to state of bliss, the more confused we get. To the point we don’t recognize ourselves. Instead, we keep smiling. Trying to be the happy people we were until eventually it hits us. It’s been there all along. Not in the dreams or hopes. But in the known, the comfortable & the familiar" (Grey's Anatomy)
"No era sólo la maldad y las intrigas las que hacían infeliz a la gente, sino la confusión y la incomprensión; ante todo, era la incapacidad de comprender la sencilla verdad de que las demás personas son tan reales como uno" Ian McEwan (Expiación)
It wasn't just evil and wondering what made people unhappy, but confusion and not understanding; it was, after all, not being able to understand the simple truth that everyone else is as real as one self
AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE:
"Everything is more complicated than you think. You only see a tenth of what is true. There are a million little strings attached to every choice you make; you can destroy your life every time you choose. But maybe you won't know for twenty years. And you'll never ever trace it to its source. And you only get one chance to play it out. Just try and figure out your own divorce. And they say there is no fate, but there is: it's what you create. Even though the world goes on for eons and eons, you are here for a fraction of a fraction of a second. Most of your time is spent being dead or not yet born. But while alive, you wait in vain, wasting years, for a phone call or a letter or a look from someone or something to make it all right. And it never comes or it seems to but doesn't really. And so you spend your time in vague regret or vaguer hope for something good to come along. Something to make you feel connected, to make you feel whole, to make you feel loved. And the truth is I'm so angry and the truth is I'm so ****ing sad, and the truth is I've been so ****ing hurt for so ****ing long and for just as long have been pretending I'm OK, just to get along, just for, I don't know why, maybe because no one wants to hear about my misery, because they have their own, and their own is too overwhelming to allow them to listen to or care about mine. Well, **** everybody. Amen. " Synecdoche, New York

"Let dreams collide with reality" Me, lol
Considering Getting this as my next (quote) tattoo...
"We are nothing without our image,
without our projection,
without the spiritual holligram of who we percieve ourselves to be,
or rather to become"

"I can not not exist." - One of my friends, Michael Overton, said this at a band competition one day, and someone from another town was sitting a few feet from us, and she was like "I totally agree!" So, it's always been stuck in my mind.
"I can't wait for the weekends. I mean, after Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!" - Anonymous
I just like this one because it's funny, and seriously, I'm always ready for the weekend!
"God is very much still a part of my life, but the way the details are told in the Bible - that's very fuzzy to me. And I want to throw up when I say that. But that's the truth." - Katy Perry
I read this in Rolling Stones on Friday, and I've never felt a quote I can relate to more than this one! I always thought I was the only person who felt this way, but then a major celebrity comes out and says she feels the same way. I almost cried when I read it. Katy

From Dead Like Me's Georgia Lass:
"Death is kind of like sex in high school. If you knew how many times you missed having it, you'd be paralyzed."
"Bad people are punished by society's law. And good people… are punished by Murphy's Law."
"They say your entire life flashes in front of your eyes the moment before you die? That might be true if you're terminally ill, or your parachute doesn't open… but if death sneaks up on you, the only thing you have time to think is… Aw, ****.
Everyone always says the same **** at funerals... they talk about how sweet, wonderful, and oh-so-full-of-life you were, how it was your time and you can't question God's plan... they never say anything bad. You could be the biggest turd in the toilet bowl and you'd still come out smelling like a rose."
Others good stuff:
"Sat in that jail, I sat in that jail til I near about done rot to death. I know what it like to wanna go somewhere and cain't. I know what it like to wanna sing... and have it beat out 'ya. I want to thank you, Miss Celie, fo everything you done for me. I 'members that day in the store with Miss Millie - I's feelin' real down. I's feelin' mighty bad. And when I seed you - I know'd there is a God. I know'd there is a God."
Sofia-The Color Purple
"Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you're crazy to make an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain...and an athlete... ...and a basket case ...a princess... and a criminal... Does that answer your question?... Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club."
From The Breakfast Club
"Doctor: What are you doing here, honey? You're not even old enough to know how bad life gets.
Cecilia: Obviously, Doctor, you've never been a 13-year-old girl. "
Virgin Suicides
Personal:
"I hope this book will make you realize that good stuff and bad stuff are going to happen in your life... But both are important". A friend of mine.
"There's too much things to do... But not enough time to do them!" Me being a mess.
"If everyone could listen to Kate Bush and The Smiths, the world would become a better place." Me being philosophical.

Well I'm both impressed and stand correct: some of you smart individuals used this time wisely to dictate our good words, while the failures of our public school system simple showed off their IQ, or lack thereof.
