Chris Martin joked that they wanted to improve on the standard Katy Perry set in 2015, saying: "We've got Left Shark, Middle Shark, Front Shark, Back Shark, Two Right Sharks and the reserve shark in case one of the first sharks has a problem, in which case there's going to be a Pepsi logo flashed onscreen. No viewer at home will have any shark-based trauma."
Beyonce will join the band on stage during the performance, something Martin said was a way of linking back to Super Bowl's gone by. She famously headlined in 2013. "The way we're sort of honoring the past is by asking some of the people whose halftime shows we've really loved, and Beyonce's of course is right up there, I think most people would agree. And so we just felt like asking her would be appropriate," he said.
