As someone that was insufferable about grammar in the past I can tell you it's just because it gives you a smug sense of satisfaction and makes you feel better about yourself to correct someone. in hindsight it's super embarrassing to be so caught up about grammar in any setting besides academia

i think its stupid when people judge based on grammar especially when its like on a forum or twitter or something like i post mostly on my phone which has auto correct anyway but its really not that big of a deal

I can only speak for me, but I think grammar exists for a reason. The rules are in place to make sure that your writing is readable and understandable.

Otherwise, the sentence I just typed could look like this...

...and you wouldn't know what the hell I was saying.

Plus, I'm a journalist, so grammar and formatting are a big part of my job.

However, I used to be a lot more insufferable about it. I remember an incident years ago when I was caught picking on some Youtube commenter because of her grammar, even after I learned that she wasn't a native English speaker. It was really mean of me, and I still feel bad about it to this day.

That said, if English is your native tongue, I expect you to know the difference between "your" and "you're." That's not unreasonable, is it?
