Nintendo NX Portable Coming in 2016 and Console in 2017

Following yesterday's batch of NX rumors hinting at what Nintendo may have planned for its next console, additional information has surfaced by way of Macquarie Capital Securities in Japan.

According the firm's report (via Nintendo Life), Macquarie expects Nintendo to release NX as two separate units, with the portable element launching this November and its "console partner device" arriving in 2017.
The company also speculates the portable version will be priced around $200. No estimated price for the console unit was provided, but Macquarie believes the pair of devices may have some type of AR component as well.

It's worth noting this report is also the source of yesterday's rumor that NX may work with smartphones, PCs and competing consoles, as the firm's Head of Research David Gibson provided the information to The Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki. We've reached out to Gibson for comment and will provide an update when we receive a response.

The 3ds is really old tho. It's five years old.

And we still don't know what it is...

Pokemon Z will be on 3DS tho. They'll wait a year before releasing on the NX.

The 3DS graphics were already outdated by the time it got released, so I'm glad to see they're finally moving on from the whole Wii/DS era.

Definitely won't buy this at launch like I did with my Wii U tho

the first DS was released in 2004 and the 3ds came in 2011, that's 7 years between them

Nintendo made a mistake this generation and they think their only way of correcting it is moving on to the next gen. The 3DS is still selling well in japan why move on to the next gen quickly?? this might be the best time to pay big companies like EA to release exclusives on the 3DS.
whatever they'll release now, it won't get enough support by publishers and it'll get dated when sony/ microsoft release their new gen consoles. Also the NX will probably be slightly better than the VITA in terms of network services and specs. If Sony plans on releasing another handheld it'll make the NX look dated too.

And i'm pretty sure the 3DS is already dying and doesn't get much good support anymore.

The handheld console market in general is dying, but if you look at the 3DS' sales in Japan, they are really impressive, it was the #1 selling gaming console in 2015, last week it outsold the PS4. The 3DS had some really bad sales at some point before the New 3DS was released so now is the best time to support it a bit more and get the developers' interest back to handheld consoles. This year might be the 3DS' prime if they play it right.

They're just planning ahead, because I can't see this taking off the moment they put it on the market. It's gonna take a year before it has an ~alright~ catalog and a price-cut on top of that. The 3DS and NX could probably co-exist until late 2017.
