the first DS was released in 2004 and the 3ds came in 2011, that's 7 years between them
Nintendo made a mistake this generation and they think their only way of correcting it is moving on to the next gen. The 3DS is still selling well in japan why move on to the next gen quickly?? this might be the best time to pay big companies like EA to release exclusives on the 3DS.
whatever they'll release now, it won't get enough support by publishers and it'll get dated when sony/ microsoft release their new gen consoles. Also the NX will probably be slightly better than the VITA in terms of network services and specs. If Sony plans on releasing another handheld it'll make the NX look dated too.
