A new tiny house village for the homeless opens this week in Seattle.
Volunteers organizing the project on Union Street in the Central District say it's needed to help reduce the number of tents and illegal campsites all over the city.
“We know that we can't solve all of this with 14 tiny houses, but we feel like it's a start,” said Melinda Nichols, a volunteer who is also board president of the Low Income Housing Institute, one of the non-profits helping build the village.
The homes are insulated and have electric lighting. A nearby structure with plumbing has toilets. A shower is next.
