I was a big Avril fan back in the early 2000's when she had her classic music/image but a big thing that turned me off to her starting in 2007 was not only TBDT's songs, but her voice as well. Her tone became noticeably high-pitched and thinner as she got older, although she did have better pitch while singing live with her "new voice"...
This is her singing I'm With You in 2003:
And this is her in 2011, singing it in the exact same key
Did she get vocal surgery or lessons?? It barely even sounds like the same person tbh
I'm confused? She's essentially talking (and struggling through it) in the first video and is confidently singing in the second.
The bridge is the only spot I was impressed by her voice in the first video
This is a really interesting topic to me because I definitely noticed a huge difference in her live performances in 2007. However, I also noticed a big difference between her live voice in 2002 and 2004/2005.
Her voice improved dramatically between the Let Go era and the Under My Skin era.
I went to see the Bonez Tour twice. I also saw TBDT tour twice.
Back to 2007, her voice was absolutely FLAWLESS and, very importantly, EFFORTLESS during these World Music Award performances posted below.
She obviously did a lot of practicing and vocal training. Good for her!
