So why is chart-topping, current pop singer Taylor Swift not out-doing her Sticky & Sweet Tour? Her tour did incredibly impressive, and her name is well known, but is she not known as a great live singer or performer?

Was Hard Candy perhaps more beloved than 1989 and people wanted to hear iconic underground bops like "Candy Shop" and "Give It 2 Me" more than "Shake it Off?" Questions to ponder.


p.s. the MDNA tour also out-sold 1989 with only 3 more dates by like $100m or something.

You're comparing the most successful female artist of all time to an artist that hasn't even been on the scene for a decade, and everyone outside the US is just starting to embrace. Just wait and see how big Taylor's tours are 20 years from now, she'll probably gross 1 billion dollars considering inflation is just going to get worse

The Rebel Heart Tour is a blatant step down and a conscious decision to do a smaller tour. Madonna is the queen of fitness and health, but after the S&S Tour and MDNA Tour, both MASSIVE and respectively the top 2 female tours of all time, she had to wind herself back into something before her shows became monstrous.

Plus obviously with any basic marketing skill you'd know she'd be oversaturated and tickets wouldn't sell after touring so widely so recently, it makes sense to do one big bang tour next era.

But I was surprised to see Taylor's numbers. I assume she was copying what Katy did with the California Dreams Tour and selling tickets at a cheaper price to allow for exposure and to build her fanbase?

Thounsands of artists have been in the business for ages and can't even come close to her touring numbers, that's not the only reason. She has a plethora of classics, her shows are amazing and she is a talented performer so people attend.

To answer the OP, this is a pointless comparison. Why didn't Gaga match her numbers at her peak? Why didn't Britney?Why didn't Rihanna ? Why didn't Beyoncé?.. I mean nobody is touching Madonna's touring numbers. Dumb thread.

I love Taylor but most of her gross coming from NA? She had a chance to top S&S if her tour was big outside NA too But still, her touring number from NA was insane

Madonna is a legend who had been in the game for two and a half decades by the time of that tour. It was also her biggest concert tour yet, and came at a very opportune time for her with a global hit, publicity, after the previous era being a huge comeback for her... the setup was perfect and everything aligned for her to hit a touring peak.

madonna a few yrs in her career had her "who's that girl tour" which had numbers taylor had in the US, all over the world and performed for 131.000 people in paris. (no festival or any of that ****, a real concert)
