All of this uproar over the Oscars diversity can be summed up in the reactions by Denzel Washington and Halle Berry when they won Oscars for Training Day and Monster's Ball respectively. If you remember, Ms. Berry sobbed uncontrollably, but Mr. Washington remained cool, calm, and collective when accepting his award. Why such opposite reactions from such notable black actors? Perhaps this was because the actress lived her entire life pursuing recognition and acceptance from white people. Mr. Washington did not. In fact, he said as much when asked in an interview about his measured response to winning his Oscar for Training Day. "I don't act for these awards. I act because I love acting and would do so regardless of if anyone ever recognized me for any role." In my estimation, Mr. Washington reclaimed the power over what defined him. I do not expect black people to ever be consistently recognized from a predominantly white club just like I don't expect white people to ever dominate the BET awards. To be overcomed by joy in success or devastated by sadness in defeat is to be a victim of circumstance and no person, black or white, should ever subject themselves to circumstance.

idk why y'all seek acceptance from white people. Act to act, not these subjective awards. The same thing for the Grammy's. Make art for the sake and appreciation of art and if you get recognized then great. If not then great, it doesn't make or break you.
