I'm doing just fine without it

i don't think it's fair to call this racism because there are like 5 black people in all of Thailand and they're all tourists. Pale skin is simply preferred and it has nothing to do with the caucasian race, imo.

This is common in South East Asia though. A lot of whitening skin products are being sold. White/Pale skin is seen to be beautiful.

Well 'white makes you win' is hardly false based on stats. That's the real issue, not some dumb ad.

Yeah it's more colorism than racism nonetheless it's pretty gross since people get shamed for having darker skin tones.

Also, it's because in Asia having white skin means that you don't have to work and belong to a higher social class while those who work in the fields under the sun end up having darker skin. That's why whiteness is associated with a higher social standing and success. It was the same thing in Europe until the middle of the 20th century or so.

You can be black and have fair skin, it's not a race thing. It's real messed up though. Like in the Philippines, nearly every other Filipina girl aims for fairer skin and uses soaps and products and stuff. There are guys who do this too. I blame it on the stupid media reinforcing this kind of thinking.

Last summer in Asia people were petting my skin, pinching it, smelling and stuff. Like the fascination was crazy

It's all over Asia. Everyone associates light skin with beauty, innocence and status, especially for women.

And non-Asians prefer lighter skinned Asians too.

It doesn't because it existed long before European interaction.

Thailand was never colonized by Europeans. This has more to do with East Asia seeing paler skin as attractive due to society associating it with the upper class or nobility. While darker skin was associated with labourers and the poor since they stayed outside all day.
