I thought the rule for Oscar is an actress can only be nominated for 1 category (Best actress/ Supporting actress) ? Otherwise Kate Winslet should have been nominated for both Revolutionary Road and The Reader?

Cate Blanchett was nominated for Best Actress (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) & Best Supporting Actress (I'm Not There) in the same year many years back.

I just watched it this weekend I was blown away!!

That's because the Academy ruled against her fraud and put her in lead for The Reader. You cant be nominated in 1 category twice in a year. So not twice in Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress, but you can be nominated in both Actress & Supporting Actress.

So for example:

If the Academy rules TDG lead for Alicia, she could be nominated for both TDG in lead and EM in supporting. If they rule TDG supporting, she can only be nominated for either TDG or EM in supporting.

Alicia should be lead in Best Actress at the Oscars. She practically carried that movie and was in it as much as Redmayne was.
