Kim K soars, Katy plummets

On December 21, Apple’s app store nearly crashed while trying to keep up with downloads of Kardashian’s brand new “Kimoji” app. The program, which expands iPhone users’ emoji options to include a buffet of Kim-tastic figurines like contouring tips and nearly nude boobs, received about 9,000 downloads per millisecond at its peak! Each one commands $1.99- So, yay! More money for Kim and Kanye!
Meanwhile, Perry’s “Pop,” is not enjoying the same kind of blockbuster, internet breaking success, even though it allows users to play in a virtual wonderland as seen through the eyes of the 31 year-old music sensation-AKA “Katy Vision.” It has a meager 17,643 likes on Facebook, and, according to Investor’s Business Daily, only reached No. 54 among free iPhone purchases (No. 117 on Google Play’s chart). Those who invested in the virtual wonderland are not happy and have been dogging Glu Mobile, the company behind the app, with complaints of glitches and blurry imagery.
Glu Mobile, helplessly watched its stock plummet nearly 20 percent amid the pop debut on December 21st. Thankfully, Kim provided them with a cushy buffer, as they also released the highly successful “Kim Kardashian Hollywood” last year, which takes users through a virtualized Hollywood guided by a cartoon Kim. “It might be our biggest game of the year,” Glu Mobile CEO Niccolo de Masi raved back in 2014.
