NEW YORK – Lady Gaga's exclusion from the best new artist category at this year's Grammys has caused the Recording Academy to change eligibilty requirements for the next ceremony.

The change was announced Wednesday.

Although Lady Gaga was the most popular new artist of 2009, she was ineligible for a best new artist nomination. Her hit "Just Dance" had been nominated in 2008, before she was a platinum-selling act, and previous Grammy nominees can't be nominated for best new artist.

The rule change allows previous Grammy nominees to be eligible, as long as the artist hasn't released an entire album and doesn't win.

I don't really agree with this rule change for a couple of reasons, but at least Janelle Monae will be eligible.

I think a lot of artists who have yet to be recognized by the academy will be snubbed. I bet Drake will get in before B.o.B, and that's sad because B.o.B has been holding his own this year.

I don't like this rule at all. So she was nominated last year. Who cares? Nobody really knew her back then. (At least in the U.S.) She became really popular in 2009, not 2008.

Ke$ha will be eligible, but I doubt those dumb asses who nominate people won't even give her a nomination. They always give awards to music that is deep or contemporary, and screw what actually is popular.
