What makes "NY >> London"?
When London has more visitors per year (london was the most visited city in the world in 2015, ny 6th), has more of a prevalence online, has hosted more globally recognized events over the past few years, has a timeless nursery rhyme every kid around the world learns while growing up. Yet I often see ATRLers say NYC is the "most iconic city in the world" often placing either London or Paris at #2. So in 2015, what makes NYC more "iconic" than London on a global scale?
Iconography in each city:
London: Queen, big ben, london/tower bridge, red telephone booths, red buses, emotionless-guards etc
NYC: Lady liberty, twin towers, yellow cabs, brooklyn bridge, empire state etc
Speak to me, ATRL

If you don't care then that's cool, this thread wasn't designed specifically for you. Thanks for the bump though.

NYC has just outgrown his older sister. It's been that way for a long while, like, centuries. London has the history, NYC is cooler, I guess.

Everything.
London is a really beige/lifeless city (i've been to both) with a rich history but honestly, who cares?
NYC is the social/trade capital of the world, melting pot of different cultures, ethnicities, etc.
When NY sneezes, the whole world catches a cold. No one cares about London = moral of the story

It's the greatest city in the world it also has Times Square, Central Park, Broadway and Wall Street over the other.
It's pop culture influence >>> London's, like everything people care about nowadays you find in New York - Broadway, TV, music etc. etc.
The Statue of Liberty ALONE represents the free world etc. etc. London could never

Probably media referencing NY more than LDN. There's no Alicia Keys song about London.

"NYC is the social/trade capital of the world, melting pot of different cultures, ethnicities, etc."
I hope you know that like 70% of Londoners are foreigners.

(I'd be fine with that actually, Dubai's about 150X better than cold, ugly London)

Because of the media.
Most of the planet is obsessed with Hollywood cinema/TV and most of it is set in NYC

Yeah, a present from the French represents exactly what the US is based on, the technology and foundations laid by Europeans such as the Parisian or Londoner architects, engineers, scientists etc. etc.

Except this thread isn't arguing Dubai's non-Emirati percentages which are dominated by Indians and Filipinos for example anyway. Hardly a melting pot. Please stop with the senseless and uneducated statements.

What about London is ugly?
It's got so many different areas with different architecture and aesthetics. This statement makes no sense
