Simon regrets XF Winner song choice after the single flopped
Quote:
Simon Cowell is thought to be very disappointed after Louisa Johnson flopped in the charts.
Usually after X Factor, the winner is a shoe-in to be crowned the coveted Christmas Number One.
But after a week's worth of sales it's going to be an uphill battle for Simon and Louisa, with the single only managing to chart at number nine on Friday .
Bookies are now giving the track - a cover of Forever Young by Boy Dylan - odds of 50/1 to sit at the top spot when December 25 swings around.
According to reports, Simon and his team believe that a more up-tempo song would have shifted more than a lackluster 39,000 copies in its first week.
A source told The Sun: "It’s an embarrassing result for Syco. Even though Louisa had two fewer days of sales, they expected the single to fare much better
"On reflection, they feel picking a more up-tempo, anthemic song would have been a better idea. But they are fully behind Louisa and insist the poor chart position was down to the song, not the performer."

They really need to give the platform a break though. I never understood why the winner singer mainly is a bland coversong that feels 99% of the time out of place on the actual debut album or does not even represent the artist at all. Either work on a proper original song or give them a reworked cover song with an arrangement that fits the current time and actually fits the image/persona of the winner. I mean Simon is a labelhead, he easily could get one of the unreleased leftovers of one of the acts on his roster rework/re-record them and have an actual good song,

This is why Xfactor Australia winner songs are better, tbh. All are like debut lead single for their debut album.
There are loads of better songs than this, so they deserve it. They should go the X Factor Australia route and have an original song as the winner's single.
