On the eve of a “major economic development announcement” by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval scheduled for Thursday, Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting disclosed to state legislators that he is indeed backing Faraday Future, a mysterious car company that seemingly sprang out of nowhere and now plans to build a $1 billion factory near Las Vegas, creating 4,500 jobs.
In a letter tonight to state legislators, a copy of which was obtained by Forbes, Jia said he is not the only founder of Faraday Future, though he did not name any other investors. “Together with top global experts, we have created a partnership structure for decision-making and management of FF.”
Clearly, Jia is cooking up something big, and he most likely has Tesla Motors in his sights. More details are likely to emerge at Thursday’s press conference, but the real picture might not come into view until January, when Faraday Future plans to unveil a concept vehicle at CES in Las Vegas, the world’s premiere show for electronics and future mobility.
