In other news, at the end of this year, Darrell Gallagher will be leaving Square Enix after more than 10 years with the company. Darrell has worked as Square Enix’s Head of Product Development and Western Studios, where he shepherded this year’s successful launches of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft Go, Life is Strange and Just Cause 3, and queued up major launches for next year, including Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Hitman. Prior to that, he was Crystal Dynamics’ Studio Head, where he led many projects including the reboot of Tomb Raider. Darrell has helped create so much incredible entertainment during his time with Square Enix, and we all thank him for his incredible contribution.
This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

So the gaf rumours about someone in Crystal Dynamics persuade SE to approve the MS deal must be this guy. Expose ha SE, sis even though you were a bit late!
Oops. As a result of the exclusivity deal, I actually decided not to buy Rise and instead just watched the plot on YouTube. If that was his fault, then good riddance.

Where does it say that he was fired because of the "flop sales"?

Thanks for the masterpiece that is Life is Strange but Square screwed up on two accounts with ROTTR; the release date being alongside Fallout 4 and the exclusivity deal. The sales numbers were disastrous for ROTTR, however we don't know the actual reasoning behind his departure.
