ya I deff wanted Katy to release By the Grace of God even if it would of flopped at least it would of introduced her in a different light and ushered in a new possibility for her new era.
to answer your question tho..I think its all about how you initially present yourself in the industry. Adele from the get go came out with a moody ballad. Whereas most of the girls mentioned in the OP entered with more "fun pop bops" etc..
I'd love for them to release "deeper" sad tracks as singles..I mean Rih has and found success with some of them tbh so ya.
