Big Break After honing his D.J. skills with amateur mixtapes, MeLo-X was hired in 2009 to be tour D.J. for Theophilus London. At the same time, he began making unauthorized remixes of albums, which he would interpret with his ambient and serrated electronic sound. His remix of Beyoncé’s 2014 album, which he called “Yoncé-X,” caught the pop star’s attention; she asked him to collaborate on her next tour. “She liked how I deconstructed the music and the way that I time-stretched her voice, pitched things down,” Melo-X said.
