I have a friend who gives gifts she bought on sale, but she peels off the sale tag they put on top, so she wants you to think she paid more than she did. You can tell she peeled it off, though, because there is residue/tearing from where the sale tag was.

Yeah, it's just rude to add a price tag to the gift bought for the person. That's the whole point of giving gifts; It's the thought that counts and not how much was spent on the person. At least, that's how it is for me. **** everyone else, you do you.

Yeah I take the tags off. Unless I'm unsure whether they'll like it, usually with something expensive, I'll leave it on just in case.
