APRIL UPDATE: Second case heard in Linz's Administrative court flopped as well They'll keep trying.
DECEMBER 21 UPDATE: Case dismissed, but this Administrative court is only the first round. The Constitutional Court is the one that can force Parliament to act.
This year the Constitutional Court of Austria ordered Parliament to delete the adoption ban and the government just decided to let the Court's ruling overtake the current law and legalize gay adoption.
Now five children of gay couples have sued to let their parents marry (since marriage bills have stalled in Parliament). Their legal team says that now that the adoption ban is no more, there is an even bigger reason to let couples marry.
here in Austria we have something similar to marriage for homosexual couples which i think is even better than marriage. you have all the benefits of being married without the cons. i'd much prefer that tbh.

but yeah, keep fighting
Yup, the civil unions there are better than most of the ones that existed here I remember one law in a US state had like less than 100 applicants in the first months because it was so cheap
The case can now be forwarded to the Constitutional Court which already struck down the gay adoption ban - adoption being a more controversial issue. C'mon, CC!
Second case was heard today a lower court, but this time the judge seemed more empathetic
It might still go to the highest court, but I think in the end they'll rule for the couples. Doesn't make sense that they have the rights of married couples granted by the Constitutional Court, but not marriage itself. Let's hope 2016 is the year for them
