Ben Carson doesn't know who crafted the Constitution
"[Thomas Jefferson] tried to craft our constitution in a way that would control people's natural tendencies and control the natural growth of the government."
Quote:
Sandra Lynn Sparks
Thomas Jefferson had nothing to do with the Constitution. He was in Europe when the Constitution Convention occurred, so he wasn't involved as an author or a signer. James Madison was the primary author of the Constitution. George Mason was the "father" of the Bill of Rights."

Okay, I am by NO MEANS a lover of Carson, but this kind of nitpicking is stupid. The average American doesn't know this, either. Critique his lack of policy depth, not a mix up of names.

It doesn't matter if the average American doesn't know this, he's running for president like...

Same, but it's kinda funny how someone who "loves" the constitution so much doesn't know who wrote it.

I'm sorry but it is extremely vital that someone who's running for POTUS knows the basic civics of the government, especially when that person is likely to win his/her party's primary nomination.

Yes, so, as I said, critique his policy.

This is pretty public knowledge. They hammer in the Constitution all throughout elementary school, a class in middle school, and made us take a mandatory test about the Constitution in high school. Any adult should know this.

good grief... at least look up the constitution's history before commenting about it.
I thought it was the Constitutional Convention that created the constitution but maybe I'm wrong here. GW was president of it.

Not necessarily. Ben Carson doesn't have to know everything about the Constitution but the way he goes on the record and then it turns out he's dead wrong like not even close to being right... is pretty astounding. Republicans will bend over backwards trying to rewrite history though.

Well, no, I wasn't saying everyone should know all the inner workings of it (though I do expect a politician to have an idea). Not knowing even who drafted it though..

Who brought Sanders into this? If you can't agree that someone running for POTUS cannot lack the basics of US civic education then we're really doomed. Rick Santorum was also criticized by the entire media btw at the beginning of his campaign for lacking civic knowledge regarding the judicial branch and how it can interpret the Constitution, he was even confronted for it by Rachel Maddow. This isn't a new thing at all.

I think that's a non-issue. It's not something I'd ask someone. I care about their position on the issue. I don't expect anyone to know who drafted it. It's not of any consequence to know who wrote the constitution in the grand scheme of things.
