EXCLUSIVE: Eating PENIS and other revolting 'bushtucker' is
GOOD for you, reveals expert
I'M A CELEBRITY contestants are reportedly facing the 'most repulsive' Bushtucker Trial ever but you won't believe what the stomach-churning challenge can actually do to their bodies.
Reportedly, the next Bushtucker Trial is set to be the most repulsive in the history of the show.
But the stomach-churning challenges actually have nutritional value according to a health expert.
1. Pig Penis
Tom says: "Penis is protein, simple as that! Although the structure is blood vessels and interwoven trabeculae of smooth muscle and connective tissue,
the main nutrient you get is protein… think of the gains.
"Penis also contains collagen which is useful for the integrity of skin, win win.”
2. The Cockroach
Tom says: "The humble cockroach is not particularly appetising thanks to its corpse crawling connotations, not to mention the distinct vomit smell it exudes once crushed.
"Although two billion people (approx.
30 per cent of the world’s population) routinely consume insects as part of a staple diet, the protein derived from insects is thought to be similar to that of beef or poultry, they provide the 8 essential amino acids, as well as B vitamins, and various minerals.
"Eating an insect is similar to chewing a crushed up chicken in the sense that you are consuming flesh, bone and organs all in one…now that’s got to be nutritious right."
3. Crocodile feet
Tom says: "The foot of a croc may not top your list of protein sources, but it is no less nutritious because of its position on the animal. Crocodile meat tastes similar to chicken, and delivers high quality protein similar in nutritional composition to beef.
The protein content is
great for reducing age-related sarcopaenia as well as encouraging muscle anabolism (growth)."
4. Witchetty Grub
Tom says: "Vitamin and mineral dense, the infamous Witchery Grub delivers
a very healthy hit of thiamine and vitamin C. Witchetty Grubs feed solely on the sap of Acacia plants, one of the reasons for their high vitamin content and distinct nutty taste.
"The 9g of muscle forms protein, the essential fatty acids needed for brain function and joint integrity, and the thiamine is key to immune response and nerve function. Add vitamin C to the pot and the health of your connective tissue (ligaments, tendons, gums) and antioxidant status are sorted."
