Aussie model furious at lack of likes on Instagram photo
It can be hard to deal with. You post a photo on Facebook or Instagram, sit back and wait for **** to kick off. That’s fire you think to yourself. Man, we’re gonna need a JCB to clear all those likes. Two hours later, three likes – your mum, your sister and a bot. WTF has gone wrong? It’s the algorithms playing up, you mutter. Everyone’s phone is broken, you assure yourself. It’s all very disappointing. But it’s rare that anyone actually goes public with their underwhelming like count.
Australian model Cassi Van Den Dungen did just that. A fortnight ago she announced that she was #OffOnAnAdventure, something that one may assume would resonate with her 9,401 followers. Instagram is ready-made for celebrating being on the beach or spontaneous road trips. But Jesus Christ, this announcement only got 14 likes. That's the lowest that Van Den Dungen has ever received on Instagram.
"After going away on an amazing holiday/road trip I come home to see my post on new adventures had only 14 likes," she wrote. "The lowest amount I've ever had on Instagram. I have to say I'm pretty shocked because this, to me, either means that people A) don't like me having new adventures, as if I'm not allowed fun, or B) it means people don't like new adventures. Either way, all I have to say to those people who didn’t like my post and don't like having fun is ......YOU ALL SUCK!!!!! Adventures are fun and I'll enjoy every one I have. To the 14 people who did like my post.....WOOOW!!!! Bring on new adventures!!!!!"
Obviously, there are people out there who may class this as An Absolutely Massive Overreaction, but I’m finding myself respecting the callout. We’ve all been disappointed with likes received on a photo or a comment before, seen it go underrated or ignored by our peers, but stewed on it. Here, Van Den Dungen is questioning what the **** went wrong, like what is wrong with all you people? HELLOOOOO, I’M OFF ON AN ADVENTUUUURE she’s shouting into the void – and this time, she doesn’t feel like she got enough back.
