This song, along with several RuPaul songs and such ARE hits. They are hits because they've had impact in the drag community, I've seen queens in ****ing rural Australia bordering on bushland perform this song, that makes it a hit for what it is. You'll never see Alaska on the Hot 100 but for what he's doing he's succeeding and this song will be performed for at least the next year or so (which is major longevity for gay club acts).
