Music News: Apple Music boasts 6.5m users; less than 1%

Which means Apple has been able to convert less than 1% of iTunes users, and even those numbers might be skewed. Some of those 6.5 million likely forgot to cancel their subscription once the trial ended.

Nevertheless, with 6.5 million subscribers, Apple is now the second most popular streaming service behind Spotify, which boasts 20 million paid subscribers. Deezer boasts three million users, while TIDAL just recently crossed the one million mark.

Speaking at the WSJD Live Conference, Cook said he was pleased with the results thus far. “I think it’s fabulous, and to have over 15 million on there, and 6.5 million in the paid category, I’m really happy about it.” (Another 8.5 million, who signed up after the initial June 30th launch, are still using the free trial.)

Eh, it's still next to Spotify. To be honest I don't think they pushed it enough. If I wasn't an avid music listener and I didn't look at ATRL and music blogs I wouldn't have even known of it's existence.

They could possibly after the other trials end, near 10 million paid users which is an amazing feat to achieve in such a short time.

But then again, it's Apple. We should expect big things.

Spotify remains king. These numbers aren't bad but it's Apple, I'm sure they were expecting bigger numbers.
