Well you can't really generalise them like that because everyone's situation is different.

I do. No drug addict was placed in a position where they made a conscious decision to be "addicted" to anything. That's the problem with addiction in the first place. It supersedes the mental ability to stop drug abuse/whatever abuse from continuing. At the end of the day an addicted person is still a person. So yeah, I sympathize with them.

I know that addiction is a real thing, but it's more of "Why did they do it in the first place?" There was always that consciousness at the beginning and the individual chose that route.

No. My dad isn't an alcoholic as such but when he drinks, which is like every weekend, he has a problem. There was one time my mother was away supporting her side of the family and I was left at home with him and it was just horrible. He was in such a state and calling her like 300 times and I had to eventually stay up all night and hide the phones. And in the morning, of course he didn't realise what he'd done. I tell him all the time to stop drinking because he can't handle it and this happens all the time, and he still does it and goes too far. So no, I have no sympathy.

For this reason, I don't drink myself, except maybe one or two glasses of something weak like Blue WKD or champagne with orange juice every six months on a special occasion or so. And I don't approve of drugs full-stop.

Consciousness of what? Again, no one says " welp!!! Lemme sit here and drink this drink so I can become addicted" you then have people who are addicted to pain meds when they are given them in the hospital and not taken off of them slowly. (Happened to my mom). Not everyone is a raging addict looking for the next fix.

That's not really how it works. There's a difference between a bunch of college kids binge drinking and someone drinking because they need to. For some there is an emotional dependency on drugs and or alchohol. It's not like someone snorts cocaine, and suddenly becomes addicted. If they're depressed and don't have the appropriate coping mechanisms then they turn to other ways to alieviate their stress (food, self harm, or drugs). It's all way too complicated to say "well you should have never have done that in the first place."
