Discussion: Are male babysitters weird?

Would you hire a male babysitter? Or do you think a male babysitter is weird?
I remember having this conversation long ago with a cousin and he said he wouldn't hire a guy to babysit his kid because they could abuse him but he would hire a girl babysit (girls abuse too tho). It got me thinking about double standards with men and children and how men are viewed as weird for being affectionate with children in the same way women are. I even remember having this male teacher in 3rd grade and everyone thought he was a pedo (he wasn't) because he taught young kids

I think there is even a law in Australia(?) banning men from sitting next to children in an airplane that aren't related to them. I mean most of you guys are males, do you agree with this?

Not at all. I, too, remember a teacher at my school being male and he only lasted a year. People acted like he was a creep.

I honestly feel sorry for the gay elementary school teachers I know because they love what they do but I feel like they're put in such an uncomfortable position.

My boyfriend is the only male at the daycare he works at. I always think that's a bit odd but there's nothing wrong with it. Father figures are just as important as mother figures.

I think it's just a bit out of the ordinary for many people + many guys don't really consider doing it. And my family made me watch like 5 random kids one time so

tbh when I have kids I don't think I'd ever hire a babysitter that was a stranger (male or female). It sounds a bit paranoid but I knew 2 different guys that were molested by their (teenage, female) babysitters as kids

the double standard for men and women in childcare industry exists because sex offenders are disproportionately male. By a lot. I don't think there's anything wrong with being more cautious with men, it's statistically accurate

No, in fact growing up I got along with male babysitters more than female babysitters.

I'm horrible at working with kids myself though. I was at a service event once and I was assigned to work the fishing booth. The event organizers never gave us break time so we had to eat lunch while we were on duty. What was worse was that they only gave us pizza, and I have fillings my front teeth so I had to eat very carefully, so it was difficult for me to work the booth while eating so the booth fell over and hit the kids and they all got mad at me.

Surprisingly none of the parents got mad at me, they mostly told their kids it wasn't my fault. I was so embarrassed though

Thats not a Law.

It was just a policy a certain airline had. You should probably do some research before you make statements like that.
